Thanks to Zora Arkus-Duntov and his Corvette Engineering team, 4-wheel disc brakes were standard by 1965, making the car competitive in Arkus-Duntov’s eyes with its European rivals. The sleek and futuristic Corvette Sting Ray’s body design—penned by Peter Brock and guided to production by Larry Shinoda under GM Design Chief Bill Mitchell—remains a design landmark today. By 1966, the Sting Ray body was refined, and, in totality, the 1966 Corvette stands tall among the best of the breed. While many enthusiasts favor the rip-snorting big-block models, the 327-powered Corvettes of the era delivered an uncanny blend of poise and balance with razor-sharp handling and good braking characteristics with the lighter-weight small-block engine. Straight-line performance was also deceptively strong, with 327/300 HP Corvettes routinely able to out-accelerate many far more powerful opponents. Retaining the original matching-numbers 327/300 HP V-8 engine and original matching-numbers 4-speed manual transmission, this 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible is a prime example of the breed with a succession of the top awards in Corvette circles to its credit. Among them are Bloomington Gold Certification, National and Regional NCRS Top Flight awards, NCRS Performance Verification, the Zora Arkus-Duntov Mark of Excellence and MCACN Concours Gold and Triple Diamond awards, both recently earned in 2019. Colors are a rare and refreshing combination of Tuxedo Black for the exterior with a captivating blue and white interior, white convertible top and Goodyear Blue Streak tires. In addition to an original-type radio instruction tag, documents accompanying this outstanding 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible include the original Corvette Owners Card, Protect-O-Plate and Bill of Sale, along with original sales documents.
